History:

When the war ended there were some who did not return from whence they came. There were those who had come to take an interest in the humans, and began to live among them, though some humans did little to show any sort of hospitality towards them. In a small neighborhood, just a few blocks outside of Manhattan, a stranger had came into a small diner run by a local family. The man looked and acted human, he had money, which he used to rent the room above the place. For a while he became a part of the small community, though few knew his name, and even fewer actually talked with him except for one young girl by the name of Lilly Monroe, who worked in her family’s restaurant, and was often the one who took meals up to the stranger. Rumors flew around about the two, how often she went up there, how much time she spent, and when asked her only reply was silence. Two months later, just as mysteriously as he appeared, he left, and it was then that people began to speculate that he was not human.

Soon after the stranger left Lily found out she was pregnant. Many knew who the father was, and those that did never spoke of him. For the months that followed strange things began to happen around the small neighbor hood, more of those of non-human decent began to come into the city, many of them coming to the place where Lily and her family worked, and more rumors began about the child in Lily Monroe’s belly. Nine months to the day the stranger left Lily gave birth to a healthy baby girl who she named Talen in her pain-induced delirium; a name she said at the time was in honor of her father. The only problem with the child though that doctors saw right away were her eyes. While one was perfectly normal the other was as black as night...a trait that even in the cases of many half-breeds was rare.

Talen’s grandmother took both mother and child in; with the father missing she saw it as her duty to raise the child to be a normal human girl. For the first eight years this seemed to work perfectly. Talen was a bright and cheery young girl, a friend to many in the neighborhood, and many soon forgot about the stranger thought to be her father. This all ended rather suddenly though when the girl’s power emerged suddenly. While at play a young bird was found, fallen from the nest, a young boy began to toy with it while Talen, held back by another boy, yelled at him to stop. A mother watching this began to come over to stop the situation but was stunned when both boys fell to the ground as if struck by an invisible hand. When the woman arrived at the scene her own child and the other boy were hurt, though Talen had remained untouched, and when asked she seemed not to remember a thing. Word soon spread, and from that point on Talen became an outcast. Wives whispering behind her back calling her a devil-child, the bright girl disappearing with each dark stare that was shot her way.

Though she had the strength to withstand such verbal abuse, and humiliation, Lily could not. Since her child’s birth she had begun to wander around the city at all hours, her mind slowly slipping away from her until Talen’s next birthday. Taking a knife she stool up to her daughters room and tried to kill her, but was soon stopped by her own mother. Still crazed, she ran out of her home and out into the streets that early morning. Talen never knew that was going to be the last time she ever saw her mother again. Lily had disappeared, no clue whatsoever as to where she might have gone, presumed dead by a few. The girl refused to believe it however.

Years past, and the neighbor seemed peaceful once more until she was sixteen. A few months after her birthday a band of demons came through, destroying what they could, killing and burning. Talen’s home went untouched in the fray though, many of the creatures going out of their way to avoid it, and many took this as a sign that she truly was the devil’s child. It was then that she decided to leave that place. Those she’d had known all her life, the few that she’d called friends where now either dead, or were turned against her now. In the dead of night only a few days after the attack she packed what she needed and left, taking only a few clothes, money, and the few things her mother had given her along with a man’s silver ring, with a blood-red stone set in it, a gift from Talen’s father. She found her way aboard a boat crossing the ocean, and set about trying to find the man who was her father.

Present Day: Talen has not stopped searching all of these three years, her travels taking her across the world as she finds out bits and pieces about the stranger who had come to her home nineteen years ago.

This is the truth that Talen is searching for...

The war had many casualties on all sides, humans, angelus, demons…they all fell at each other’s hands. One such casualty was that of an angelus warrior, Theophilus. The angel was more of a scholar than a fighter, however he fought against the humans for Ultima with the hope of finding more knowledge about the world below their own. Theophilus was not violent, but rather curious, often wandering off to explore parts of the land, however his curiosity would be his death. While flying about during a time with no battles to fight he found himself at the edge of enemy territory. An attack by humans in their planes fell him in Antarctica, his wings sliced off by the bullets as he tried to get away, his blood stained the snow crimson. The humans landed and found the angelus near death, after beating him viciously the soldiers shot him until he not longer breathed, until his body was nothing more than a bloody mess. With not burial, or words for the dead they left him to rot.

Years past, and in the below-freezing weather the body was kept in good condition. Theophilus’ spirit remained with his body, watching over it as years pasted slowly…then his spirit discovered the resting place of the prism.

The prism that had crashed into the earth, sending it into darkness, creating the Impact. Theophilus felt the pull of the prism, the power that flowed around in it such great amounts. Approaching it, he slipped within the prism, trying to absorb some of the powers to perhaps use to reunite his body and soul. However, as he did this, his own body became absorbed within the large obsidian, dissolving and becoming part of the stone’s power. At that moment a reaction happened, Theophilus’ own spirit began to be absorbed, but he fought it with his own powers, this clash produced a bright, blinding red light, and for a moment it seemed like that was all that would happen. The powers that were within the angelus' body and by the spirit had created a circuit to run the prisms power through, so much of it would surely have destroyed any other being, but Theophilus lived…

Opening his eyes he found himself at the place he’d fallen after he’d died, his body whole once again. Somehow during this surge the stone had replaced the power within him, and through this process gave to him a corporeal body. No longer was he an angelus, but a living piece of the stone itself, a vessel of its power. Standing the young male found at his feet a blood-red stone, a piece of the prism that had broken off when he’d been transformed. The stone had become purified, thus changing it’s color from black to red. It acted like a filter for his powers, controlling them enough to hide what he was from others. He was a living ghost, part of the prism that had darkened the world.

Changing his name, Theophilus became the wanderer Gavin. From Antarctica he began to travel around the world, no longer were his wings needed for flight as he used his newfound powers. He learned many things, and met many people. He’d heard of the fall of Ultima, and was overjoyed at the peace that came to the world. There was something that did not sit well though.

The farther Gavin got from the prism, the more he felt it’s pull, the prism now containing part of his own consciousness. He was a puppet to the dark aura, and fought hard to gain his independence from it, but the process would end his life. The red stone, which he’d set into a ring, seemed to be the one thing which kept him from being completely taken over, but it would not last for long. Gavin made the decision that there had to be another to carry on the task of carrying the power of the prism.

While in America he came upon a young woman who possessed minor psychic abilities, though they remained unknown to her. Her family owned a café with a few apartments above it, so Gavin bought one and started the process of seducing the young Lily. Lily at first was cold towards him, and Gavin became irritated by this almost giving up on the girl. However, one night when she brought up his dinner she remained behind and began to ask him many questions about his life, asking what he was. The ghost realized that the girl knew he was not human…he was impressed by this and gave into her questioning to tell her exactly what he was. She was the first and only person that knew his secret, and for the time he stayed there they grew closer, their coldness becoming a heated passion. Gavin realized his love for Lily, and she for him, they soon joined in bed, both knowing full well what their embrace might produce. This affair continued on and on until Lily came with the news that she was indeed with child.

The grim reality of their life set in. With the transfer of power Gavin knew his body would slowly begin to die unless he returned to the prism. Giving only a brief goodbye he left Lily, giving her only the ring he wore telling her to give it to the child once its powers began to manifest. With that he returned to Antarctica and the prism.

The ring that hangs on the chain around Talen's neck acts as a seal to her powers, blocking most of the dark aura from the prism, allowing her a mostly human aura. This also explains the strain it causes her both mentally and physically when she uses the powers she had gained despite the seal.
